
“Ahmed Abu Zeid” may lose his sight as a result of medical negligence

The Egyptian security forces continue their crimes against detainees inside detention facilities. The medical neglect is still one of torturing methods inside prisons.
The organization is reported that the Egyptian journalist and rights activist “Ahmed Abu Zeis” is subjected to medical negligence inside Tura investigation prison ward 3. A while ago, he suffered glocoma and needs an urgent surgery or he will become blind.
Despite that, the prison administration refuses to provide appropriate medical care.
The Egyptian security forces arrested him on December 22nd, 2017 from his house. He disappeared for several days and then appeared before the State Security Prosecution under the case No. 977 of 2017 known as “Mekamellen 2”. Since that he is detained at Tura prison.
The organization expresses its deep rejection to the medical neglectof “Abu Zeid” and stresses that it is one of the long-term torture means that clearly violates the Egyptian constitution and prisons’regulations
.
The organization, also, condemns the torture and medical negligence violations as they violate the international laws and instruments ratified by Egypt most notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention against Torture. The organization calls on the Egyptian authorities to provide the appropriate medical care for the detainees, and particularly allow “Abu Zeid” to undergo the surgery as soon as possible to save him from getting blind.
